It
is with great sorrow that the Presbyterian Church of Wales and
Coleg y Bala come to terms with the tragic death of Sion Ifan
Evans. He passed away at Maelor Hospital, Wrexham, in the early
hours of Saturday 9 February, following an accident at the
College.
Siôn was leading a youth weekend at the time, in virtue of his
work as one of the youth workers of the Presbyterian Church of
Wales. Naturally, our concern lies with Sion’s parents and
sister, and with the many friends he made during his life.
Sion was appointed Youth Worker for the Presbyterian Church of
Wales in 2002 following a successful academic career at Ysgol
Llandysul and Bangor University.
Sion’s talents and skills made him an exceptional individual: a
very approachable person, a true professional who was thorough
and conscientious in every aspect of his life. He was a true
friend and was always ready to help – but above all he was a
Christian of conviction, who had come to know and accept Jesus
as Lord. His faith was not expressed solely in words, but in all
aspects of his life, and his steadfast faith could be seen in
all that he did.
He will be greatly missed because his life touched so many
people, and we can but pray that his family and friends will
know the strength and comfort of the Lord during this period. We
extend our most sincere sympathy, sharing their grief at the
loss of one who achieved so much, and who had so much more to
contribute.
“Precious
in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” Psalm
