Humanitarian agencies
are calling for prayers and donations for the people of Burma
following the disastrous cyclone.
Almost 23,000
people have died and a further 40,000 are missing following Cyclone
Nargis. This figure is expected to rise over the following days and
weeks, with one diplomate suggesting that up to 100,000 people may
have perished.
Up to a million people
have been left homeless.
An enormous
humanitarian effort is required to help the people of Burma, and
Christian Aid, along with the other members of the
Disasters Emergency Committee
are calling for donations.
According to Christian
Aid, your:

£20 could help
provide two relief packages containing water purification
tablets, medicines and food;

£40 could pay for
an early-warning system such as loudspeakers and flags for a
community;

£100 could help pay
towards materials for temporary shelters.
