Yr Orsedd honours
Elders
A number of Presbyterian Church of Wales elders will
be received as members of the Gorsedd of Bards in the Cardiff and
District National Eisteddfod in August.
The ones honoured are:
-
Neli Jones,
Ponrhydfendigaid: Honorary Order of Druid (White Robe).
For lengthy and distinguished service to the Gorsedd and
Eisteddfod.
John
Gwynfor Jones, Cardiff:
Order of Druid (White Robe). Has already published a
large number of volumes and articles, establishing
himself as a leading expert in his field in Welsh
history. Has promoted, taught and directed students
through the medium of Welsh, spreading that principle
into the field of school examinations. He has also been
very committed to the cultural and religious life of
Cardiff for over forty years.
John Glyn Jones,
Denbigh: Order of Druid (White Robe). His
contribution to the Welsh culture of Denbighshire has
been exceptional. Apart from his success as Chief
Executive of Cymdeithas Tai
Clwyd and his service as a Justice of the Peace, he is a
poet of national standard and is one of the officers of Barddas.
He leads the Talwrn team and the local paper team and is
a committed contributor in the fields of language,
religion and politics.
Dewi Morris Jones,
Bronant: Order of Ovates (Green Robe). Gave an age
of service as a professional editor, editing hundreds of
typescripts and overseeing their publication. This is
creative work that calls for literary intelligence as
well as technical accuracy. He is a man of
culture, fluent in Breton and French, and committed to
serving his community.
John Price, Ystradgwyn
(Machynlleth): Order of Ovates (Green Robe). A fine
craftsman who produces exceptional metallurgy. Has
crafted many crowns and prizes for eisteddfodau and
local and national festivals, including four crowns for
the National Eisteddfod. He regularly adjudicates in the
crafts section in the Royal Welsh Show. And, to crown
his achievements, he is highly cultured and committed to
his church and society.
Sidney Davies, Order of Ovates (Green Robe). An
excellent member of her neighbourhood. Having married
Theo Davies of Glyn Ceiriog she settled in the valley,
contributing richly to the commercial, religious and
cultural life of the area during the half-century she
has live there. In every worthwhile activity in this
part of Wales, she plays a key role.
Also being honoured is Reverend Aled Edwards, Chief
Executive of Cytûn. Many congratulations to them, and also to other
members of the Presbyterian Church of Wales who are due to be
honoured.
