Community House
Church in Newport always involves the community in its
activities. This Christmas was no different, with a party held
for the children of the refugees and asylum seekers living in
the area.
Marilyn
Priday, the church's inter-faith worker, explains how they
joined forces with Dads'R'Us, a group of fathers and children
who meet in the church on Saturdays: "The dads always put on a
panto for their own kids and I persuaded them to let us join in
and then we would provide a party for all the children."
"We
had an appeal for toys for the children and were able to give
each child a bag of goodies to take home to open on Christmas
morning."
"Many of the gifts
came from the Asian women who use Community House regularly.
Giving to charity is, of course, one of the five pillars of
Islam, and they always respond to an appeal with great
generosity."

"The children
enjoyed the panto and carol singing. Father Christmas had a
selection box and cuddly toy for every child. The usual
wonderful volunteers came up trumps with the food, which was
mostly paid for by Newport Community Development. Everyone
tucked in with relish."
"A good time was
had by all!"
