The Welsh Christian scene will be shaken up by
drums, riffs and hip-hop rhymes this month as
four young bands and artists take part in the
Start Something tour around Wales.
The Repercussion, Society
Profiad, Tom Whitman and Steff Ellis will be
gigging in Bangor,
Aberystwyth, Swansea and Cardiff, and young
people of all ages are welcome.
“Never before in Wales have we seen 4 young
bands on tour – through the medium of both Welsh
and English, singing praise to God in a number
of different genres,” said Cynan Llwyd, the
frontman of Society Profiad and a familiar face
to S4C viewers and listeners to BBC Radio Cymru.
“Society Profiad is a movement, not a band,” he
added. “Although Rhys and I are its ‘face’,
anybody who loves Jesus is welcome to become a
member of the body! Our vision is to see a group
of new, fresh and talented artists singing the
praises of the Living God in a way that’s…well,
alive! Singing a NEW song to God, that’s our
vision, and that’s why I’m really excited about
the tour.”
Aled Ifan, youth and children’s worker at Berea
Newydd church, Bangor, is the Start Something
tour promoter.
Aled said: “The Start Something tour will see
the bands travelling around Wales and hopefully
showing that you don’t have to sing hymns or sit
still for an hour to be part of a living church.
I’d love to see more of this sort of thing, so
I hope that these gigs really will start
something – more gigs and similar events in
Bangor, Aberystwyth, Swansea, Caerdiff and
beyond.”
“If you like U2, a bit of hip-hop and Jack
Johnson, this is the gig for you. All are
welcome – those who just love to listen to live
music as well as kids and young people who go to
Sunday school.”
