Rebuilding in Barry
For over a decade
the buildings committee of Barry Holy Trinity Church considered how
best to ensure that their church buildings met the needs of the new
century.
Unfortunately the
120 year-old church hall was structurally unsound and wheelchair access
to the main Church building was
impossible. It became clear that a new Hall on a
different footing was the only solution to our problems and the
situation became even more urgent when two of the largest nearby
non-conformist Churches with substantial Hall accommodation decided
that maintenance costs were too great and decisions were made to
close the buildings and worship elsewhere
The church
succeeded in raising over £105,000 by holding concerts, beetle
drives and various other activities. It was also awarded generous
grants by the South-Easth Presbyteri, by the Welsh Assembly
Government (through the Community Facilities and
Activities Programme) and from several other sources. Over 700
people signed the petition presented as part of the application for
the Assembly Government grant!

The old Hall gives way for the new one
The new hall is now being built, and although there is some
disturbance to the church's life as the work goes ahead, the members
can now look forwards to having new facilities for the use of both
church and community.
We were saddened to hear that Mr Gareth Howe, Buildings Steward
of Holy Trinity Church, passed away before the work was completed.
We thank him for his work and commitment to Holy Trinity Church and
extend our sympathies to his widow and family.
