£700 was raised
towards the Haiti appeal during St Davids Churches'
Council week in January.

The
Week of Christian Unity was opened with a service in
St Michael's Catholic Church. People from the seven
denominations which form part of St Davids Churches'
Council came together under the leadership of Revd
Wiliam Owen, chair of the Council. Reverend Ifan
Roberts, General Secretary of the PCW, was the
preacher. He emphasised Christ's presence in our
world today, and how the world fails to acknowledge
that presence, exactly as it was on the road to
Emmaus. He encouraged the audience to prepare
material and spiritual resources for Walk Saint
David, a mission campaign that will be held in
Pembrokeshire and Cardiganshire later this year.
A
quinted from the Cathedral sang a Tallis motet, and
Alan York led a short period of meditation and quiet
on behalf of the Quakers. Fiona Michael led the
prayers whilst her three-month-old son slept in her
arms.
£200 was raised towards the Haiti Earthquake
emergency Appeal. The service was the perfect start
to a series of Bible meetings and short prayers
aimed at considering the significance of Christ to
our world.
At
the end of the week, a Soup and Crumble Lunch was
held in the city Hall, with the proceeds again going
towards the Haiti appeal. At £4 on a sunny day, with
the snow and ice having finally melted away, the
lunch was well-supported. The soup was provided free
of charge by the local pub, Farmer's Arms, whilst
the vegetable soupd and crumbles were donated by
other supporters.
Around £500 was collected at the door so a total of
£700 was raised to Christian Aid's Haiti Emergency
Appeal.
St Davids Churches'
Council are now preparing for the Christian Aid
Service and Week later this year and the St Davids
Walk campaign in late September.
