Half-term fun at Trefor

There was plenty to keep the children and young people of Trefor occupied over half term as the Clwb Hwyl a Sbri and Clwb Chwarae Teg! held all sorts of exciting activities. Llinos Roberts explains what went on.

MORE FUN AND GAMES

Two mornings packed with activities for the children were held in the Centre at Trefor during half term. We were grateful to Kelly and Miriam for oranising all the kids' activities, and for holding the lively events. Miriam and Kelly are seventeen and are gaining a lot from their experiences helping out with the Kids' Club under the guidance of Llinos Roberts, Trefor Christian Community Worker. There were games, races, parachute games, biscuit-decorating and craft. We were also visited by two other VIPs - Mirain and Esyllt called by as they were visiting their gran. Mirain and Esyllt act on S4C's soap Pobol y Cwm and they joined us for parachute games. Thank you everyone who joined in the fun!

CLWB CHWARAE TEG (THE FAIR PLAY CLUB)!

The Clwb Chwarae Teg! celebrated the Chinese New Year during half term. What better way to do this than to go for a Chinese meal!

As we enjoyed the food we also had a chance to learn about the New Year celebrations. As we read facts to each other about Chinese traditions, it became clear that some customs were very similar to ours here in Wales.  The Chinese New Year started on February 14 this year and on New Year's eve it is customary for families to get together and cook dumplings - a piece of silver is placed in one and whoever has that one will have good luck! Red paint is very important to the Chinese in their New Year's decorations - a lucky colour. On the morning of the New Year it is customary to give pouches of money as gifts to the children. 2010 is the year of the gier and babies born during this year will be strong and brave, very honest and will think well of everyone. They will also expect the same of other people.

Did you know that using chopsticks is a 5000-year old tradition? By now it's the second most popular way of eating - using fingers is the first!
