What We Do

Training

The Training and Candidates Department provides and coordinates training to help churches and individuals give their best to the Presbyterian Church of Wales. Training and guidance are given to lay people, ministers, workers and volunteers. The Department also organises courses for those wishing to become ordained ministers.

Y Coleg Gwyn (The White College)

The Department's office is located in the Coleg Gwyn in Bangor, where the training officers of the Presbyterian Church of Wales, the Union of Welsh Independents and the Baptists Union of Wales work together.

The Presbyterian Church of Wales' Director of Training is Revd Dr Elwyn Richards. All enquiries regarding training should be directed to him.

Training can be provided locally and activities are regularly held at Coleg Trefeca and Coleg y Bala, the Presbyterian Church of Wales' training centres.

Lay training

broad range of training is available and can be provided according to requirements. The Department can provide:

  • Courses on leading worship and preaching
  • Training for elders to administer sacraments
  • Resources for local training
  • Encouragement and guidance wherever necessary
  • Training resources

Ministers and workers

In-service training is provided three times a year and specific training whenever necessary.

For those wishing to become ordained ministers

The Department, in consultation with the local churches and presbyteries, accepts candidates for ministry and arranges their training.

For churches and presbyteries

The Department can provide guidance and financial support for training within a church or presbytery.
